A Product Manager without a Product

Some backstory: I started working in Product 5 years ago. I love it because I enjoy solving real problems for people and I want to bring light to my little corner of the world.

Unfortunately, the company I was working for has been hit hard by the Coronavirus pandemic…we are a live events company, after all. So Thursday, they let several of us know we’ve been indefinitely furloughed…no work, no pay until further notice. The furlough starts at the end of this week to give us a chance to finish up our work and pass it along to those staying around.

So here I am–a Product Manager without a Product.

I’m going to put my years as a Product Manager to good use during this time. Discover the world around me, learn of new problems, prioritize them, define solutions, and iterate as I go. I’m going to be balancing the urgent with the important–balancing urgent things like finding a job and staying healthy with important things like teaching my kids empathy during trying times and keeping our family connected.

It’s a lonely time for lots of people. Some people are laid off, some people are working from home, some people are missing regular contact with others. So, while I’m on this journey, I want to write. I don’t have much of an agenda outside of adding a small voice to the conversation that’s happening right now about the new world we find ourselves in. And I want to strive to make that voice one that brings light to this little corner of the world. See you all tomorrow!
